I was very saddened today to hear about the passing of Paul Gray.

Our friends
Are all hurting
From moments
And regrets
And charity
Laced with a lie
Still we keep hoping
To fix all the defects
And strengthen
These seminal ties
We go on together
For better or worse
Our history
Is too real to hate
Now and forever
We stay until morning
And promise to fight
For our fate

Til we die
Til we die

The start of a journey
Is every bit worth it
I can't let you
Down anymore
The sky
Is still clearing
We're never afraid
And the consequences
Opens the door
I never stopped trying
I never stopped
Feeling like family
Is much more than blood
Don't go on without me
The piece
That I represent
Compliments each
And everyone

Til we die
Til we die

We won't be forgotten
We'll never give in
This war we've achieved
Has allowed us to win

Til we die
Til we die

My last true confession
Will open your eyes
I've never known
Trust like the nine
Let it be spoken
Let it be screamed
They'll never ever
Take us alive

Til we die
Til we die

We won't be forgotten
We'll never give in
This war we've achieved
Has allowed us to win

Carry on
Carry on

(We'll never be broken
We won't be denied)
(Our war is the pressure
We need to unite)
(We'll never be broken
We wont be denied)
(Our war is the pressure
We need to unite)

Til we die
Til we die

We won't be forgotten
We'll never give in.
This war we've achieved
Has allowed us to win

Carry on
Carry on

We'll never be broken
We won't be denied
Our war is the pressure
We need to unite

Til we die
Til We die

We won't be forgotten
We'll never give in
This war we've achieved
Has allowed us to win

Til we die
Til we die

We'll never be broken
We won't be denied
Our war is the pressure
We need to unite

Slipknot is coming to town, and Michelle and I are going! Sweet! It's only a couple of weeks before Halloween too, so that will be cool. Maybe we should go wearing masks too- I bet I could find a really cute polar bear mask!
Also, just now we registered for San Diego Comic Con 2010! We talked about going this past summer but by the time we looked it was long since sold out so we decided to go next year come hell or H1N1.

Fanart Friday: Slipknot

I was kinda tired from work so I was just about to head off to bed- still got one more tomorrow- but I saw this pic in deviantArt's new images feed so here you are (by B04-juice):

The obvious step from here is to show an individual portrait of all 9, and undoubtedly I will, later. For now check out this stunning Chris Fehn, by ilison, more where that came from:

A few weeks ago I was listening to the title track of Slipknot's new album. Michelle came into the room and asked me what I was listening to. "Slipknot- All Hope Is Gone. It kicks ass."
"It does kick ass," Michelle agreed.
Seriously, it kicks ass. There wasn't really any doubt about that. The surprise is that, despite the title, it actually is the cheery album I jokingly called it last month before it came out. Well, maybe not cheery. But hopeful. Maybe at the tail end of eight years of Bush and war and recession, the only way to be truly metal is to offer hope.
Like this recurring theme in "Wherein Lies Continue":
I only wanna believe in fucking anything
but now my conscience is contradicting everything . . .
We only wanna believe in fucking everything
But we're alive and not accepting anything . . .
I guess I'll never believe in fucking anything
But my solace is I can handle everything . . .
We have to save ourselves

That's the hope Slipknot offers- not in belief, not in god, not in government, but in yourself. Ourselves. The Nine of them, united "Till We Die" and the rest of us maggots.
"We'll find a way when all hope is gone"

Also it's unlikely you want to hear about digging rocks all day at the mine. But you DO want to hear about the new Slipknot CD! Isn't that the best news you've heard all week? Maybe even all year! What's that honey? Oh right, the baby. Uh, second best news all year! It's called All Hope Is Gone.
Sounds like it will be more cheery than their last one!

Together at Last!
It must be Christmas- two of my favorite things, Slipknot and Star Wars, are finally brought together (for no particular reason at all), as #8 discusses his lifelong love of that galaxy far, far away. Yay for scary men in masks! I heard Darth Vader, Boba Fett, General Grievous and some stormtroopers formed a band called Sithknot.
