Fanart Friday: Wall E
The last couple of Pixar movies haven't been my cup of tea but Wall E looks amazing, and it is getting some pretty great reviews too- the Edmonton Journal called it the movie of the decade. Since it just opened today there isn't a whole lot of fan art out there but here are a couple, from kisaru and bosstones22 respectively:

And in other news, they have discovered that some African frogs can extrude their toe bones as claws, Wolvie-style, when threatened. Crazy! Like the movie Logan, doing so causes pain and unlike X-Man, they don't have a healing factor so it is a last resort. I kind of wish poison dart frogs could do this, but I am also glad they can't. One of the challenges of writing Poison Dart is the bad guy I have is pretty crazy tough, and I'm not realy sure how Dart is going to prevail. Some adamantium claws would go a long way in badassing him up. But really, little Dart's appeal is he is not a badass superhero but just a little froglet. Albeit a poisonous one. Ribbit albeit!
Turns out Epantiras already imagined a frog with ninja claws:

Woohoo! I ran for fifty minutes today, under a foreboding sky and with the aid of:
KoRn- don't you think the opening of Twisted Transistor sounds like some Lovecraftian Cthulhazoid is emerging from a space seed spewed to Earth from some Neutron star? I do.
Marilyn Manson is the guy who takes that Cthulhazoid home for a pet and plays it the Resident Evil Main Theme as a lullaby.
Alanis Morissette's new song Citizen of the Planet has a Mansonish riff in the chorus, and seems to be about allowing space-spewed Cthulhazoids immigration rights to Earth.
Henry Rollins gives the Cthulhazoid some much-needed life coaching in Low Self Opinion. Even space spawn listen to Rollins when he tells them to quit hating on themselves.

So Chapters/Coles/Indigo is having a buy three get one free sale, and it applies to every book they have. Sweet! Too bad they didn't have Ursula Vernon's Nurk. That one might have to be an Amazon order. Here's what I got:
Schuyler's Monster, Robert Rummel-Hudson. I love his blog (currently featuring a picture of Schuyler and TWO rancor monsters!!) so I know his book will be great, too.
Beijing Confidential: A Tale of Comrades Lost and Found, Jan Wong. I've read her other books about China twice each so it's great to have a new one. Even if everyone in Quebec hates her!
Finding Battlestar Galactica: An Unauthorized Guide, Lynnette Porter. It was that or Crash Course in Brain Surgery- Metallica and Philosophy.
And then I also got one for Michelle, Stephanie Meyer's New Moon. The third book in the hugely popular vampire romance series for teens. Some of her students lent her the first one and she got into it. Fair enough.
Right now I'm reading Italo Calvino's If On A Winter's Night a Traveller, which is great. And I just read China Mieville's The Scar, which is easily my favorite of his books so far. One of those rare books you don't want to end. One of those books Italo Calvino might call Books You Love So Much You Want To Reread Immediately But You Know You Have Too Many Other Books To Read So You Don't.

It seems a shame to go to bed at 9:30 when it stays light out till almost midnight around here at this time of year. One good thing about it is when you wake up at just around 1 in the morning thinking it's time to go to work and then you see you still get four more hours of sleep. Sweet!
What's not sweet is all the dinosaurs I didn't find this week, unlike these guys. I did find a pretty good fossil leaf though. Which a dinosaur might have been about to eat when it was predated upon by a bearosaurus! A saber-toothed bearosaurus! With batwings and guided missiles. That particular species hasn't been described in the scientific literature yet because they are still running some tests but I'm sure you'll be hearing about it shortly.

Robofish!
What else is there to say, really?
I will say I have another OT shift to work this week, so rather than my usual 50+ hour workweek it will be a little more than 60. But holidays are around the corner so all will be well.
Perhaps there is one or two people out there who are wondering about the adventures of Dart the Dendrobates azureus. I haven't forgotten or given up- but I write longhand and the typing gets lost a little in the shuffle- that's easily my least favorite part of the process.
Also , i think this is my favorite tv show at the moment, what with Galactica suspended for over a year (and wtf is with that????)

This is kind of cool- NASA is building a sunprobe. When I saw the headline- NASA Probe to Fly Into the Sun- I was thinking something really cool, but they just want to venture into the Sun's corona, not dig into the heart of the solar furnace itself.
Do you remember when C3P0 and R2-D2 did that? Space walk . . . Death walk! But actually they survived.

It's so nice to be half done my week after working only one night shift. I took half the week off for a wedding. Night shifts around this time of year are nice because there's only about four hours of dark. But I gotta go! No fan art friday again today sorry! Well here's a quick one in honor of the incredible Hulk! A recent daily deviation by Manarama:

An even newer Clone Wars trailer is out!
Here's a picture of one of my clones hanging out, perhaps in line to see the movie:

Scalzi says this is the saddest picture on the internet.
And this one gets my vote for the cutest.
Right now, for me, these are the scariest- I took these out my front and back windows just now as I heard about the tornado warning in effect for Edmonton:

Dirty bastards, eh?
I'm sure some day it will be a text book case study of corporate intrigue, and you almost have to admire the chutzpah of CTV, but really, that was a dirty trick and I think it will backfire on them.
On CTV news tonight, there were all these soundbites of how they couldn't let this cherished song fall into obscurity. I guess they were doing all Canadians a service. Somehow I doubt we'll see them sign over the rights to Hockey Night in Canada, though.

Via Harvey's friend Helen, the Ramones covered by some senior citizens:

Plus, my favorite tribute to the Ramones, also by senior citizens, Motörhead's R.A.M.O.N.E.S:

Hi remember me? I'm still here. Just busy, doing lots of works and overtimes and stuff. Kinda sucks but the big bags of money I get afterwards are nice. Although after the taxman and the bill collectors get their take there not so much left for mr homie bear. Ah well, there is enough for a treat or two, like the new Green Day CD! Sweet! If you're like me and have been almost literally under a rock for the last little while you might not have even been aware there was a new Green Day CD. It's true, only it's called Foxboro Hottubs.
