Took a couple days off after that marathon blogging sprint in October- I blogged every day in October, a feat only accomplished two times before in the previous nine years right here. Yup. Some days it was pretty weak, and in all honesty I count it a bit of a failure since I never did get around to writing any sort of Halloween poem or story or anything. Two kids is a Harrison Bergeron effect if there ever was one.
You know what's awesome? The Wire. Finally got around to watching Season 1.
You know what's less awesome? Metallica and Lou Reed's collaboration, Lulu. Master of Puppets and Lou Reed's New York are easily the two albums I could have on a dessert island stuck with some sort of infinitely rechargeable iPod that also somehow only had room for two albums. So put them together and it should be instant head asplode awesomeness right? Well, not at first. But you know what, I'ma go against the flow here and give it more chances. Lou and Jaymz together at last? A pairing not even Cthulhu could have conceived of? How can I say nay? I can't. It's awesome just for trying! Yup, I'm declaring it awesome!
Therefore what must bear the brunt of my anti-awesome venom is OSX Lion. Sorry Apple, I love you and have one of everything you sell (except an Apple TV which isn't even a TV at all! ) but Lion really sucks. Srsly. Safari never crashed on me once with Snow Leopard, but with Lion, about a hundred billion times so far. Since yesterday.
My chapbook The Ursus Verses is available now! Bears! Monsters! Coming soon- more bears and monsters. And robots!

Running on my treadmill, listening to the iPod. Good recipe for coming up with the crazy shite! Remember this one?
A line from Unforgiven II inspired this little snippet (Unforgiven III is my current favorite Metallica song though, this line is so wrenching to me- How can I blame you when it's me I can't forgive). Anyways.
She traced the outlines of his tattoos with her fingers. They always asked about the tattoos.
"What does this one say?" She pointed to the script on his chest.
"Black heart scarring darker still."
"Jesus."
"Fuck."
"What?"
"You say Jesus, I say fuck. It's like a blessing. The muslims do it, whenever someone mentions their prophet they always say 'Peace be upon him.' It's like that."
"Huh. Sounds more like a curse to me."
"Yeah. Exactly."
"Jesus."
"Fuck."
She giggled. He didn't. After a while she went on with her line of thought.
"So this tattoo around your heart . . . you have a black heart?"
"It's from a song. This guy sleeps with a girl and then kills her and leaves."
He felt her tense.
"It's just a song. A tattoo. I'm not gonna hurt you. Jesus."
"Fuck."
"Exactly."
She went on to explore his other tattoos.

Have you been watching the FIFA Under-20 World Cup? Yeah me neither, though I do know Canada was knocked out of it without even scoring a single goal in the whole tournament. The soccer tournament I wished I had seen is the Under-20 millimeter Nano Cup. Played by nano-robots. Nice.
Someday soon there will be little nano-blacksmith robots hammering tiny metal swords and guns to do battle with other nanobots. But in the meantime it is up to people like Cory and me to keep the art of blacksmithing alive. Check out what we made with his forge the other day- he made the Legolas leaf, and I was proud just to do a simple hook:

Speaking of metal, did you hear that James Hetfield was mistaken for a Taliban terrorist at a British airport? They thought his beard was suspicious. Seriously. Sidenote: as much as I admire the New Zealand Herald, I have to question their spellcheckers. Taleban?

Wasting My Hate
For a while there my faith was shaken, but luckily I am far too smrt to be pulled in by a joke. A clever and funny joke, to be sure, but just a joke. And maybe a bid for free publicity by a small-time band. What am I talking about? The "Metallica sues band for using E and F chords" business. Blu poosted about it today on his new blog, and we had a brief MSN exchange in which I stated my thoughts that this was obviously a hoax. But I was a little worried when the article included a link to Metallica's homepage with an official press release. A ludicrous one, but if the Official Website says it, it must be true, right? But then I realized (only 6 hours later)- Metallica just totally reworked their site, and this release was still in their old stye. Ha! A fake! I went to their site from my bookmarks, rather than following a link from the article, and there was no mention anywhere of suing a band for using certain chords. Case closed. Blu, I will expect a formal apoology on your blog. Or I'll sue.
Update: I didn't even bother going to Unfaith's website the first time, but I see that they are also confirming the hoax.
And here is a link to a story on Metallica kicking ass, and Fred Durst needing to get his ass kicked. But what else is new?

I found this on some other blog, and since St. Anger is but twelve hours away or so, I thought now would be a good time to do it:
Identify yourself using the songs of one artist/group : Metallica
1. Are you male or female? Low Man's Lyric
2. Describe yourself: One
3. How do some people feel about you? Prince Charming. Or else King Nothing. Either way- royalty.
4. How do you feel about yourself? Hero of the Day
5. Describe your girlfriend/boyfriend/interest: Ain't My Bitch :O When I have a girlfriend my answer is certainly not that!!!!! The Thing That Should Not Be! (Not that either, heehee)
6. Where would you rather be? Wherever I May Roam, OR, Where the Wild Things Are
7. Describe what you want to be:Of Wolf and Man, if we pretend it is really called Of Bear and Man. Or how about The Outlaw Torn? or Better Than You? Just kidding.
8. Describe how you live: Carpe Diem Baby
9. Describe how you love: Nothing Else Matters
10. Share a few words of wisdom:To Live is to Die.
Just twelve more hours . . .
